Estimate peaks and monthly transfer
For downloads and video, consider peak throughput as well as monthly transfer. Collect usage records, audience locations and busy periods before comparing plans.
Port speed is not a transfer allowance
Port speed, shared or dedicated bandwidth and monthly allowances are separate terms. Check whether exhausting the allowance causes throttling, suspension or extra charges, and which traffic direction is billed.
When a larger port is unnecessary
If traffic is low or the bottleneck is disk, database or application performance, more bandwidth may not help. Review monitoring and application response before upgrading.
Test the intended route
Ask whether the test target belongs to the route you intend to purchase. Save the time, source and output; a single speed test is diagnostic evidence, not a month-long performance guarantee.
